Tsuboya Ceramics began in 1682 when the kilns of Chibana, Wakuta, and Takaraguchi were consolidated and relocated to present-day Tsuboya. Products are classified into ara-yachi and jō-yachi. Ara-yachi consists of unglazed and comparatively larger works, whereas many jō-yachi works employ glazing with uniquely Okinawan paintings and patterns.
