旧美里村で祭事の衣装や晴れ着のために織られており、19世紀後半には技術・技法は確立され定着していたと考えられている。多くの花織は緯浮花織であるのに対し、知花花織は縦方向に文様が浮いて模様を出す経浮花織である。
In the former village of Misato, Chibana Hana-ui was woven in the form of clothing for festivals and rituals as well as for formal occasions. It is believed that the techniques were established and took root in the late 19th century. While much Hana-ori emphasizes threads that run crosswise, Chibana Hana-ori emphasizes vertical threads and expresses vertically-aligned designs.
